sustainability
Our VISION
We believe in buildings that endure. Terracotta is one of the few materials in architecture with a centuries-long track record of doing exactly that. What was built in the 19th century still stands, still performs, and still defines some of the world's most admired streetscapes. That longevity is not incidental, it is the material.
At Darwen Terracotta, whether we are restoring a landmark or supplying a new build, our measure of success is the same: work that will still be standing in a hundred years. When you specify terracotta, you are choosing a material that comes from the earth, returns nothing harmful to it, and needs remarkably little maintenance over its lifetime. We source responsibly, manufacture transparently, and can provide full embodied carbon data through our published Environmental Product Declaration.
Whether your project involves restoring an existing building or designing from new, we are here to help you make the case for a material that will outlast the brief.
environmental & social value certificate
Darwen Terracotta has been awarded the Environmental & Social Value (ESV) Certification, a new standard developed by Made in Britain in collaboration with MAP UK & International.
The Certification recognises Darwen Terracotta’s contributions and commitment across people, planet, and place, including employing and training people in the UK, supporting local communities, and operating in line with UK legislation and regulations on ethics and environmental sustainability.
environmental product declaration
Our Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) provides life cycle data on the embodied carbon of our glazed terracotta. If you are working to sustainability targets or need to evidence material choices to a client or planning authority, it is all in there.
