Darwen Terracotta at ICRI Metro NY Demo Day 2026
The event is jointly presented by the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI) and the National Women in Roofing (NWiR), and brings together architects, engineers, and building consultants for a full day of hands-on demonstrations focused on architectural terra cotta repair and restoration.
What to expect
Demo Day is built around direct, physical engagement with the materials and processes involved in terra cotta conservation. This session follows the complete lifecycle of a historic terra cotta restoration project, from initial 3D scanning of a damaged or missing unit through to a finished, kiln-fired replacement.
Attendees will see how field survey data is translated into accurate shop drawings, how those drawings inform hand-built models and plaster moulds, and how the moulding, casting, and firing process produces a unit that matches the original in profile, texture, and colour.
The demonstration is designed to give architects, engineers and contractors a clear, practical understanding of what's involved in specifying and sourcing like-for-like terra cotta replacements on Landmarked and historic buildings.
The day includes:
4.0 AIA-accredited CEUs for technical content delivered by industry experts (full-day attendance required for the full CEU total)
A technical panel Q&A with terra cotta industry specialists
Hands-on demonstrations of anchors, flashing, and patch/glaze materials
Networking with manufacturers, design professionals, and contractors working across the NYC restoration industry
Catered lunch (12–1pm) and happy hour refreshments (4–5pm)
Why we're going
Terra cotta restoration in New York City is a specialised field, and much of the knowledge that keeps historic buildings standing is best shared in person — over a workbench, not a slide deck. Demo Day gives us the chance to talk directly with the architects and engineers specifying these repairs, and to show, rather than just describe, what's involved in matching and manufacturing terra cotta to the standard these buildings deserve.
Attend for free
Registration is free for practicing Architects, Engineers, Design Professionals, Consultants, and Students. Non-AE ICRI or NWiR members can attend for $50, and the non-member rate is $100. Full details and registration are available on the ICRI Metro NY Demo Day page.
We'd love to see you there — come find the Darwen Terracotta table and see the process firsthand.
