The Savoy needs no introduction. Designed by Thomas Edward Collcutt and opened in 1889, it's one of those buildings that feels like part of London's DNA. So when the Grade II listed hotel closed for a major refurbishment, its first in over a century, the restoration of its terracotta façade had to be done properly.
That's where we came in. Our team manufactured the replacement terracotta units needed to restore the Savoy's iconic exterior, matching the character and detail of Collcutt's original design. The wider project, led by architect Reardon Smith with structural engineering by Buro Happold and specialist installers Rosewood Restoration, involved the extraordinary feat of temporarily raising the entire five-storey hanging riverfront façade (terracotta and all) to allow the building's structure beneath to be rebuilt. It's the kind of project that reminds you why getting the material right matters so much: when a façade is that significant, there's no room for compromise.
